CAPITAL MARKET INFORMATION CENTER

In order to develop Indonesia’s capital market, Indonesia Stock Exchange makes several direct approaches to the public. One of them is through the establishment of the Capital Market Information Center (PIPM) in potential regions.

The purpose of the establishment of these centers is so that the Exchange Members can operate in potential regions, and to increase the number of investors and issuers in those regions. These centers are not permanently built. Once the development of capital market in that region has shown satisfying results, IDX will relocate the center to another potential region. A number of PIPMs that have been relocated are those in Denpasar, Medan, Semarang and Palembang.

Currently, the Indonesia Stock Exchange has twelves PIPMs. They are located in Balikpapan, Makassar, Manado, Pekalongan, Pekanbaru, Padang, Jember, Pontianak, Yogyakarta, Cirebon, Lampung and Surabaya. PIPM’s socialization and education programs are not only organized in the region where the PIPM is established, but also in its nearby areas.

This event is supported by 30 press and electronic media, as well as by Pacto Convex Ltd as the organizer.

This year theme brings out investment outlook and strategy for 2010, which are closely related to the national and international macroeconomic condition, as well as to sociopolitical situation and the problem of legal certainty. Indonesian economic condition is getting more stable if seen from the macroeconomic indicators, such as from the inflation rate in 2009 that reaches 4-5%, much lower compared to more than 11% in 2008; the fluctuation of Rupiah exchange rate to US dollar that remains stable at around IDR 9,400 – IDR 9,600 compared to Rupiah exchange rate in 2008 that fluctuated to more than IDR 12,000 per USD; and the Indonesian Central Bank (BI) interest rate for 2009 that touches 6.5% compared to 8 – 9.5% in 2008. The Indonesia’s economic growth in 2009 is also performing pretty well (around 4-5%). In fact it is the third highest after China (around 7-8%) and India (around 6-7%). On the other side, by the forming of government’s big coalition, the sociopolitical condition is predicted to remain stable. All these indicators will determine the Capital Market investment strategy for 2010.

The theme of the event “Investment Strategy in Indonesia Capital Market for 2010” is in line with to the purpose of the event, which is to update investors regarding the current situation and condition, and invite them to take advantage of the opportunity opened in 2010. On 30 November 2009, JCI reached the level of 2,415.837, or increased more than 78% compared to level of last year’s closing level of 1,355.408. This year’s excellence market performance hopefully can remain in the future and offer more investment opportunities for investors in the Capital Market.

In general, Investor Summit and Capital Market Expo 2009 consist of Seminar, Expo and Presentation by Listed Companies. On the other hand, Presentations by Listed Companies, which consists of 28 listed companies, aims to give a chance for the investors to directly discuss with the company’s management about the company’s performance update and prospect in the future, so that they can make the best decision for their investment.

ASEAN EXCHANGES WELCOME INCLUSION OF HOCHIMINH STOCK EXCHANGE IN ESTABLISHING CROSS-BORDER TRADING

Five ASEAN exchanges – Bursa Malaysia, the Indonesia Stock Exchange, the Philippine Stock Exchange, Singapore Exchange Limited (SGX) and the Stock Exchange of Thailand entered into an Accession Agreement with the Hochiminh Stock Exchange today that will include the latter in a regional pact which will explore cross-border trading amongst the ASEAN capital markets via an electronic gateway. This Accession Agreement took place at the 9th ASEAN Exchanges CEOs Meeting in Kuala Lumpur of which Bursa Malaysia is the host.

This agreement followed a memorandum of understanding which was signed in Bangkok by the original five exchanges, excluding Hochiminh Stock Exchange, in February this year. This regional cooperation, which is considering an electronic linkage between participating markets via a single access point, aims to assist the ASEAN region to upgrade its capital markets in order to stay competitive. This initiative aims to establish an ASEAN Bulletin Board, which will display market data of participating exchanges and enable each exchange to feature stocks from its respective market.

According to Bursa Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato’ Yusli Mohamed Yusoff, the inclusion of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange in the regional alliance further affirms the prospect and viability of this initiative which will connect the ASEAN markets electronically and more efficiently.

Dato’ Yusli added, “As the host of the 9th ASEAN Exchanges CEOs Meeting and on behalf of all five original ASEAN exchanges, Bursa Malaysia welcomes the participation of Hochiminh Stock Exchange into this regional collaboration which will offer a more competitive and facilitative ASEAN platform for global investors. Bursa Malaysia and the member exchanges share the view of reaping long term value in such strategic collaboration as it will elevate the ASEAN Exchanges as a group by combining the respective markets’ economic and financial strengths.”

Mrs. Phan Thi Tuong Tam, Senior Deputy CEO of Hochiminh Stock Exchange said, “We have been standing side by side with the ASEAN exchanges for nearly two years since the ASEAN Link project was initiated by the ASEAN countries. We have always expressed our desire and willingness to join the linkage, and today, by signing this MOU, Hochiminh Stock Exchange would like to commit ourselves more deeply and comprehensively to this project. Each ASEAN exchange has its own particular strength and through the linkage, they will have good opportunities to develop such strengths as well as utilise their advantages in the area by creating the common, unique, firm and well-diversified image of ASEAN.”

Mrs. Phan added, “On this occasion, we would like to thank the participating ASEAN exchanges for giving us the good opportunity to stand together in this unique community and we hope to be able to contribute to the success of the whole initiative.”
